Mary Lynn is a videographer, video editor, and pioneering video podcaster based in La Jolla, California. She creates short form videos for education institutions, science, and news organizations, scuba adventure and shark diving operations, film festivals, and art galleries.
Her work includes news, science, and education video packages, adventure and sports videos, exploration, historical, and art videos. Mary Lynn launched DiveFilm.com in early 2000 as one of the first websites dedicated to streaming underwater video on the internet. In 2005 she released the first podcast of underwater video to be featured at iTunes, DiveFilm Podcast Video. In 2007, she launched the first high definition podcast of underwater video, DiveFilm HD Video.
DiveFilm HD Video Podcasts were named to the iTunes Podcasts Best of 2007 and iTunes Podcasts Best of 2012 lists, and showcase some of the best underwater short videos being created today by underwater filmmakers all over the world.
In 2008, Mary Lynn deployed to Antarctica as part of a National Science Foundation grant to produce educational short video portraits of some of the amazing women working in Antarctica.
In 2010, 2011, and 2012 she deployed to Antarctica to produce science outreach and communication videos about the work of the Weddell seal research team studying Weddell seal population ecology in the Erebus Bay region of Antarctica’s Ross Sea. During 2019 - 2020, Mary Lynn will continue to create informal science education and outreach materials for the Weddell seal population ecology project. In addition to producing science outreach materials for the Antarctica Weddell seal project, Mary Lynn worked for several years as a stereoscopic 3D editor and colorist with veteran 3D cinematographer, the late Bob Cranston. As her most recent passion, Mary Lynn is now working to create 3D 360 Virtual Reality (VR) science short story videos.
An Apple-certified Pro in Final Cut Pro, Mary Lynn teaches video editing and short-form video storytelling on land and at sea. She gives presentations on the Weddell Seal Science project and science to classrooms and community organizations both in person and via Skype all over the world. Mary Lynn is one of the co-founders of the San Diego UnderSea Film Exhibition (SDUFEX) founded in 2000, and a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. She continues to be involved with that project annually as a Director Emeritus. She served three terms as President of SDUFEX.
